CERT RESILIENCE WORKSHOP

Exploring Climate Emotions and Collective Healing through Group Process and Training

This workshop is for anyone who has been curious about our 8 week CERT training but is not ready to commit. For any former Thicket participants who would like to come back to the practices. For anyone who is craving a moment of pause, practice and reflection in a group setting.

As we are all living in a time of accelerating ecological and social disruption, building emotional resilience is now foundational to our ability to stay engaged, connected, and effective in our work and lives. This 3-hour experiential workshop, offered through the Climate Emotional Resilience Institute, is an adaptation of our 8-week Climate Emotional Resilience Training (formerly Thicket). It offers a condensed yet meaningful entry point into the core practices and frameworks of CERT that support emotional resilience in the face of the Polycrisis.

In our model, we talk about 3 distinct capacities that need to be cultivated for an expanded view of resilience:

3 capacities for emotional resilience

Internal capacity

Embodied self-regulation strengthens our ability to regulate our own nervous systems through grounding, breath, and somatic awareness. These practices help us move out of survival states and into greater flexibility, presence, and inner spaciousness so we can stay with grief, uncertainty, and complexity without becoming overwhelmed.

Collective Capacity

Co-regulation builds the capacity to regulate with other humans  through connection, presence, and shared experience. By engaging in dialogue and community, we activate our innate systems of co-regulation, reducing isolation and allowing resilience to emerge between us, not just within us.

More-than-human capacity

Ecological belonging reconnects us with the regulating and restorative relationship between ourselves and the more-than-human world. Through practices of kinship, reciprocity, and nature connection, we expand resilience beyond the individual and into a relational, ecological field of support that includes land, waters, and all living beings.
